Enhanced Troublebshooting

This page provides additional troubleshooting guidance as gathered from the Insignia community.

Further Troubleshooting

  • DO NOT CHANGE YOUR HDD KEY AFTER REGISTERING WITH THE INSIGNIA SETUP ASSISTANT!

  • you must use the Register Xbox command in the Insignia setup assistant on your Xbox or in your Xemu emulated Xbox before being able to connect to Insignia

  • do not use UnleashX for gathering network info, UnleashX, Avalaunch and other homebrew dashboards are known to display incorrect IP info, XBMC will likely display the correct info

  • if the gateway UnleashX is displaying does not work and your computer is on the same network, use the default gateway from your computer. It should be the internal IP address of your modem/router

  • static leases / IP reservations are not the problem, and will not fix problematic dashboards from changing your network settings

  • XBMC4Xbox, older versions of XBMC Emustation and XBMC4Gamers only support 1 Static DNS server, once all other network enabled dashboards are set to Static and your MS Dashboard is set to Manual DNS you can change the network mode on these dashboards back to Default (Dashboard), you will need to correct the network settings again every time another dashboard/app changes the network settings

  • if the error Xbox live is not responding. Please try again later. appears when you attempt to register; this is often caused by packet loss, try changing your network cable, set the MTU on your internet connection below 1499, and just keep trying to register, if your country option does not work try another nearby country

  • Setup Assistant Discs like HeXEn, Rocky5's extra disc as well as apps, like NKpatcher Settings are custom homebrew dashboards and will also change your network settings, after using them you will need to manually change your DNS servers again

  • if you are able to sign into Insignia but are not able to join games, forward UDP Port 3074 in your router to your original Xbox console

  • if you are using EvolutionX and cannot connect, disable TSR Xbox Admin\System\Settings\Misc section

Advanced DNS Help (DNS Masc)

Advanced users may want to redirect Original Xbox DNS requests with their router, firewall appliance, PiHole etc. The following information was posted by Insignia Administrators in other threads. Only use this information if you absolutely know what you are doing. This is NOT part of the troubleshooting information in the first or second post.

We wouldn’t recommend this unless you have no other choice due to an ISP hijacking DNS, and because if other devices use the same DNS server it may interfere with them (Xbox 360 uses the same domains).

That being said, you can point the following to 46.101.64.175

MACS.XBOXLIVE.COM
TGS.XBOXLIVE.COM
AS.XBOXLIVE.COM

Change Your HDD Key (Set From Zeros)

Changing your HDD key if it's set to all Zeroes instructions provided by Rocky5:

...you can use configmagic v1.6.1 to restore the original eeprom that located in E:\Backups\eeprom\ (eeprom_original.bin)

Copy it to the data folder inside configmagic v1.6.1 (name it eeprom.bin replace the one in there already)

Then you can do the following.

1: Load configmagic
2: Unlock HDD
3: Load EEPROM.BIN File
4: Update XBOX EEPROM
5: Lock HDD
6: EXIT ConfigMagic ( if you don't see this your HDD is unlocked, lock it)

Make sure you LOCK THE HDD

Setup Assistant Troubleshooting

Setup Assistant Troubleshooting:

  • if the Setup Assistant fails to start on your console, try running an older version (this may correct EEPROM errors on your console), then running the newest version againt to register

  • if the setup assistant says your DNS is being hijacked, try Insignia DNS

Non-Network Troubleshooting

Additional non-networking troubleshooting:

  • If you see Technical Difficulties multiple times when trying to download a game update your game rip is either patched or otherwise damaged. Re-rip the disc. If you are using DVD2Xbox turn off all ACL patch options in general settings, or update playing directly off a disc. If your update is still failing, delete the update folder for that specific game in E:\TDATA\<TITLEID>\$u\
